Donata Wenders
During his lunch break in the film "Perfect Days" by Wim Wenders, Mr. Hirayama grabs his camera to capture the trees in a Tokyo park. The Japanese term "Komorebi" describes this everyday natural spectacle where rays of sunlight pierce through the foliage. The sun twinkles through the fluttering leaves, weaving a dreamlike play of light and shadows.
In her 2022 photographic series "Komorebi Dreams", Donata Wenders explores this natural display and captures it in visible moments for us. These black and white photographs, printed on fine Japanese Washi paper, resonate with a fragile tenderness and a profound love for nature. Is this aesthetic uniquely Japanese or universally understood?
Everything is transient, everything evolves, and nothing remains the same... These are the reflections that move us as we consider these precious moments, letting us feel both the beauty and the impermanence of life.
The enjoyment of the light's play and the melancholy of transience accompany us as we view these dreamily beautiful photographs by the artist.
Donata Wenders (* 1965 in Berlin) studied film and theater in Berlin and Stuttgart and began her artistic career as a camerawoman for feature films and documentaries. She has been working as a freelance photographer since 1995. She lives and works in Berlin.
